We pride ourselves in knowing what in-house counsel want to learn, to hear, to advocate and to participate in. We believe we know how to organize activities to meet these needs. We are going from strength to strength and now have over 500 members.

Over the last year we organised over 30 CPD seminars, held our very successful annual conference focusing on anti-monopoly issues, hosted a number of social events and endorsed numerous conferences. We also strengthened our international partnerships with our sister organizations.

In order to attend any of our events/seminars/conferences, you must become a member.

More on benefits of membership (+/-)

Some of the benefits of membership are:

  • The HKCCA AGM, Annual Conference and Annual Dinner.  The Association’s annual conference, a key highlight for the Association’s calendar, is held every autumn, and our keynote speakers to date have included Nicholas Sallnow-Smith, who was then CEO of Hongkong Land, Secretary for Justice Wong Yan Lung and David Eldon, former chairman of HSBC, and Mr. Justice Geoffrey Ma, Chief Judge of the High Court.
  • HKCCA CPD accredited seminars, conferences and workshops, including the regionally renowned "ADR in Asia" conference, a joint HKCCA- HKIAC Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre initiative. The HKCCA works with local and overseas law firms, to come up with a topic that we think would be of interest to our members, and we ask them to provide a speaker, a venue (often in their offices, but sometimes in a hotel, club or conference space), lunch (ranging from simple sandwiches to gourmet sit-down meals) and to apply for CPD points. Our past venues range from the Ritz-Carlton to the Hong Kong Club. Attendance at the seminars can range, depending on the topic and space available, from a dozen to 50 people.
  • Access to many local and regional conferences, seminars and other continuing legal education events either free of charge or at a substantial discount to members. For several of these events, the HKCCA and its Patron, The Hon. Mr. Justice Anthony Rogers assist in selecting topics and panel speakers, and secure the opportunity to host a panel discussion.
  • Stylish and more adventurous social events, such as cocktail parties, junk trips, nights at the races, and other social events limited only by our imaginations, where in-house counsel can meet each other in an informal setting and have some fun.
  • Networking - the many and varied social functions and continuing legal education events held by HKCCA provide an ideal opportunity for in-house lawyers to network with their colleagues and peers.
  • Resources – The professional network availed through the HKCCA serves as an invaluable resource. In-house counsel are encouraged to reach out to other in-house counsel for help in their professional activities, be it for recommendations of external counsel in unfamiliar jurisdictions; provision of a general template to act as a precedent for a contract; or advice on how to handle political situations in a corporation. We also facilitate links to newsletters of various law firms and are about to launch our very own HKCCA monthly newsletter to keep members apprised of key developments in the region.
  • Email alerts / invitation to events – the HKCCA sends out emails to its members informing them about upcoming events, providing links to select resources, etc.
  • The HKCCA has forged an international network with the Australian, Canadian, New Zealand, South African, Malaysian and Singapore Corporate Counsel Associations. We have also reached out to in-house counsel in Beijing and Shanghai, and we look forward to working closely with them in the future. All of these associations can be accessed through HKCCA’s website. We have also, on several occasions worked with the Trade Development Council and the Association of Corporate Counsel in America to present videoconferences to provide practical insights to our colleagues in the United States on doing business in China.
  • Advocacy with Government and Regulatory Bodies - The HKCCA maintains effective relationships with the Hong Kong Law Society, and provides guidance on law reform proposals and other issues affecting in-house lawyers, as required, from time to time. Our main contribution so far has been to persuade the Law Society to include two of our members on the Sub-Committee for Employed Lawyers, which was charged with drafting a new Practice Direction on the permitted scope of activities for in-house counsel. We also comment from time to time on consultation papers issued by the government on topics of interest to in-house counsel and their employers.
  • Publication Discounts - We have been working with various publishers, such as Asia Law and Practice, Sweet & Maxwell and Butterworths/LexisNexis, to arrange special discounts for our members.
